| Summary / Abstract | The Cost of Late Intervention: EIF Analysis 2016 calculates how much the public sector in England and Wales spends on late intervention for children and young people, responding to the more severe problems that they experience. It updates our previous analysis from 2015. Knowing how much is spent on late intervention is useful because it also illustrates a potential ‘fiscal prize’ from early intervention although we do not argue that all of the demand for late intervention can be prevented. Our analysis also provides transparency at a local and national level about how much is spent and by which departments or agencies. This can help stimulate cooperation and new approaches to tackle the demand for late intervention. |
